I’m doing the radio ratings diary for Nielsen along with my wife, who is doing it for the first time (this is my fourth). It’s pure happenstance that a person gets chosen to do the ratings, but I’ve gotten many more chances at this, than, say, jury duty, which I’ve never been called up for.
The good part of this is that now all forms of streaming and podcasting are recognized by Nielsen for the diary, so there is no confusion about the sources of many types of audio that I enjoy. But my listening is pretty diverse, I occasionally listen to shortwave or long-distance AM radio. It’s fun, sometimes. Sometimes it’s sad to be reminded of how homogeneous radio is in the US, though.
