The shooting of Will Keeps is a story that generates tremendous frustration for me, and I wish it did for more people, too. If you didn’t hear, Will Keeps is a man who works in Des Moines in an educational program designed to help prevent kids from entering a life of violence, and, from what I’ve read, he’s been at it for a while.

Des Moines, of course, is not a place where violence happens much, at least comparatively. So, the fact that this guy (and not to lessen the fact that two kids were also shot) is now in serious condition because of gun violence – in Des Moines of all places – should be angering.

When will we collectively acknowledge that Americans have a sick obsession with guns and that something needs to change? Will it be when a six-year-old shoots his teacher? Or perhaps when a shooter massacres a group of children while police cower outside the building? Oh wait, those things have already happened. Has someone already said these victims are in their thoughts and prayers?
