Maybe Time to Say Goodbye

I originally ran House of Boyd.net starting in 2001, when personal websites were all the rage. I based it off Wil Wheaton.net — if it was good enough for him, it was good enough for me.

I ran HoB happily until 2004, when my girlfriend at the time introduced me to Livejournal.com, the new hotness. I simulcasted for a while at the time, but LJ and the new Facebook took HoB’s place, and I drifted away from this website. I did Facebook primarily for a little more than 10 years. When that fucking idiot Donald Trump got elected in 2016, I decided I couldn’t stand to look at pictures of that asshat everyday on Facebook, plus I was sick of the privacy invasions happening daily. So I moved away from Facebook for years.

In 2017, I started over with HoB. I hate to say it, but it’s always been a less than successful reinvention. I’ve posted a lot of journal entries, but nobody reads them. After a while of dedicated posting, I found I was leaving insubstantial updates with increased distance and time between the posts. In the end, I’d say I’ve mostly been talking to myself.

So, I think the time has come to accept that House of Boyd has run its course. If you have been a reader here, I thank you. I will leave the blog up for a while so I can archive the entries in another place.

We’re so small in the world, so ephemeral, that anything that remains is significant. I hope someday somebody comes across this archive and is at least slightly entertained by a time capsule of an average life for an average person in the early 21st century.

I, of course, will go on — maybe even find a better forum, and continue to share my thoughts and photographs. If this platform is still in my hands when I do that, I’ll post it here.

Farewell for now, friends.
