Did an after-work gathering with my coworkers last night, the first one in a long time. I’m generally an introvert, so social functions like this have been hard for me in the past. I think, though, that I’ve been changing my attitude – slightly – about that over the last few months, however, and gaining an appreciation for social events, at least to the point where they aren’t overwhelming. It is still a challenge at these kind of events for me with my relationship to ‘adult beverages’, as I do not drink by choice. As someone in his mid-forties, I don’t get pressured much about this like someone in their 20s and 30s. Still, I feel a little awkward in the moment of having to say no.
To those of you who might not understand that, I just want to say, it’s OK – just carry on if someone turns it down, it’s not a big deal, and the fun will not be lessened.
Anyway, that was a small moment – the rest of the night was quite fun, and I stayed until after 8 p.m.
Then I spent the rest of the evening playing Civilization VI alone in my room. Hah. Recharging is required.
